How to know if a suit fits

One of the toughest things to shop for is a good-fitting suit.

The last thing you want is to end up with a suit that’s too big and square, or too small and tight.

Why is it important to know if a suit fits?

  • First and foremost, fit is everything. A $1500 suit that doesn’t fit right is going to look like a cheap suit. In contrast, a good fitting $100 suit can look like a $1500 suit.
  • Secondly, once you get the fundamentals for spotting a good fitting suit, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars by checking out thrift and vintage shops for suits and blazers. Just in our shop alone, we’ve had suits come in anywhere from Le Chateau and Banana Republic to Paul Smith and Hugo Boss, all for under $50 (as opposed to the hundreds you’d spent for brand new).
  • Lastly, YOU should know what you’re buying! Even if you don’t want to try your luck at a thrift store for a suit, you shouldn’t need to rely on pushy sales assistants to find you a suit that doesn’t fit. At the end of the day they care more about making the sale then finding you a perfect fitting suit.
